Market
The location of our apartments and our facilities couldn´t be better. We are two steps from the ocean and from the “Farmers Market”, an architectural and touristic icon of the city (known as the “flowers market”) and also next door to the several restaurants, terraces and shops in the busy and lively old part of Funchal.
Levadas
To walk a levada is the best way to know our gorgeous nature. There are several tracks available throughout the island, with different difficulty levels. Some are suitable for young children.
Beaches
Most of our beaches are pebble stone beaches. You may also find some black sand beaches (natural ones) and yellow sand ones (artificial beaches). We suggest you a visit to our sister island – Porto Santo – where you will find 9 km of white sand breathtaking beach. Warm water, soft sand and some wind are waiting for you.
Gardens
There are several gardens in Funchal. We suggest the Municipal Garden, the Santa Catarina Park Garden, Quinta das Cruzes.
A little further downtown is the Jardins do Monte and the Botanical Gardens
Old Town
Due to its small scale and picturesque buildings, the historic street of Santa Maria is an important cultural area and is also known by the “painted doors street”.
Gastronomy
In the centre of Funchal there are plenty of restaurants and bars where you can find typical Madeiran and international dishes.
The fresh ingredients and the simple recipes are the secret of local cuisine. Our suggestions are:
- Beef skewer, garnished with Fried Maize and Bolo do Caco with garlic butter;
- Scabbard Fish;
- Tuna Steak,
- Grilled limpets;
- Scabbard roe with vinaigrette sauce
For desserts, we suggest the Passion fruit pudding, the cottage cheese tart, the honey cake; all these are perfect to taste with the delicious Madeira wine.
